General discussion

To nutcracker: post deleted.

Sorry, but we are very hesitant to allow posts with links to shops.

If it's so unknown that nobody knows what you're talking about, it probably is a scam. And if it's known enough to have a sensible discussion here, a link to a shop isn't needed for that discussion.

So retry without links please, if you're really interested in a discussion.

CNET Forums needs an "Edit Post" button.

Just saying. Only forum I've ever seen that doesn't allow you to edit what you post.

we do have it

it's called preview?? Check it out.

I said EDIT post.

Not preview what you're going to post. Like this guy that got his post deleted, if he was just a normal guy not trying to spam here and simply made the mistake to post links to some store not knowing it's against rules a mod could either tell him to remove the links or remove them for him and then tell him like other forums do.

he preview

gives you the chance to edit, does it not? And maybe if that guy had read the terms of service he wouldn't have made that mistake, would he?

Just accept the fact having an Edit option would be useful and get over it. Like to fix your spelling error.
Gee people on the internet have to try turning everything into an argument.

There are good reasons for no edit once a post is submitted

It would allow a person to make changes to what they've said after others have replied. Don't think this wouldn't be abused in an argument or debate. You can take back what you said or clarify it if it seems to have been misunderstood but you need to make another post to do so.

I once believed as you seem to do so about editing later by the originator but understand why that's not permitted. There aren't too many opportunities in life where mistakes...honest or not...don't come with some cost.

I use other forums where editing is permitted...

....and it hasn't caused the kinds of problems you're talking about. The post is tagged to note that it's been edited (the user can't remove that tag), and most users are good about adding text to explain what they changed and why.

I've hit Preview and then posted and THEN realized I had a typo or something and wished I could fix it. We've all also probably posted something hastily and then wished we could take it down.

(NT) I'd really miss some of the hilarious typos

C|NET uses crappy forum software. Almost every other forum on the internet allows editing and the problems you cite are few and far between.

Time to join the 21st Century.
