to buy or not to buy

Hi
I am a first class computer ignoranus, so here are my questions to you:

I am a teacher and I want to digitalize all my books on a tablet pc to spare myself the pains of carrying around the loads I need dayly. To make my class-situations at all convenient, I need to be able to multitask: have more than one book open at the same time, which is impossible with android or apple.

windows 7 seems the answer

but: I have seen how sluggish the dell inspiron duo is, windows 7 didn't seem up to the job of handling touch-pc reality.
recently I have set my mind on the samsung slider: that one seems very quick all of a sudden... or is this too good to be true? or ... are those two devices incomparable?

is it worth waiting for windows 8 which boasts better touch-pc-handling or is windows 7 not as bad as sceptics tend to believe?

any insight is welcome
