to activate a password in xp

Dear sir I have installed WinXP Prof. in a Notebook after upgrading it from win 2000, and as far as I'm the only user or say the administrator for this machine I want to logon using a password, so I tried to activate it form control panel/user accounts but after restart the computer did not request me to enter my logon password, then I tried manage/user and groups but I did not find any command which will request users must enter password then also I went to the Administrative tools/local security/password policy and also I didn't fin such command can you please help sir

Try disabling the welcome screen.

If you disable the Welcome logon screen, you also disable the Fast User Switching option.
