TiVo HD vs. Cable Company DVR

Sep 8, 2008 12:18PM PDT

I was wondering which would be better for the money...A TiVo HD box or Time Warner Cable's set-top HD-DVR?

I currently own a TiVo Series2 and am quite familiar with how TiVo's work. Is the change from a TiVo to a cable company box very much different?

Would the Dual Tuner component on the TiVo HD work if I only used an HD set-top box and didn't use two CableCards?

Thanks!

couple things to consider
Sep 8, 2008 2:50PM PDT

first, do you want to use the video on demand service they might offer.. A tivo wont do that.
second, whats the cost over say 3 years?
Tivo (purchase of box and guide plan (i don't know what options are there) and for cable cards)
Company DVR just the price of the box per month.

also repairs.
Tivo, if its not the cable cards you are relying on tivo
Company DVR, should be free to swap to a new one if it fails.

hope that gives some insight and others that know better then me expand/explain more

Tivo has signed an agreement with comcast and is talking about time warner, so if you have one of these two company's I would just rent their standard DVR intell they offer the new Tivo upgrade if they dont already.

good luck
