TiVo/HD question....

by tjkeller / October 29, 2004 6:29 AM PDT

I'm addicted to my Tivo. I just purchased a Plasma tv capable of displaying HD signals. I would like to get a DirecTV HD tuner but the one they have with Tivo built in is running $1K!!! Is there any way around this? I can't unhook my tivo... my wife would kill me. But... I want to take advantate of my ridiculously expensive tv and use it for what it is designed for.

Any thoughts? I'm sure I'm not the only one in this situation....

I have been researching the same issue. The short answer is, There is no free lunch. I will not be buying any HD componant until there is a TiVo receiver with HDMI connections. It should be priced below $300. Voom is supposed to have one out this year. I don't understand the marketing that Direct TV is doing. They need to go back to school and re-learn the razor-razor blade lesson.

There is no other way besides waiting. I install Directv, and my supervisor says there is no way to buy an new HD Tivo for less than retail. Even I have to pay full retail. If you can't wait just go to best buy, call directv or whatever you would like to do. If you can wait I'm sure the price will go down sometime, just like the regular Directv Tivo.
