Tired of the talking point: Americans want higher mileage

Apr 27, 2006 12:32AM PDT

...vehicles, they just need leadership. This is idiocy! It implies that Americans can't FIND such vehicles when there are plenty to choose from. Do these politicians think they are so smart and the people such idiots that we need to wait for them to tell us to buy the higher mileage vehicles we supposedly already want?!

I'm absolutely in favor of higher mileage. Congress should

pass a law that mandates that my Mustang get 50 miles per gallon with no change in size or performance. I'm sure the Mustang WILL OBEY!

Typically, what these guys want is one cylinder tin cans that won't go fast enough to dent the fender if they collide. That is the thinking which gave us SUVs. Trucks were exempted from the regulations, and SUVs are trucks.
