Has been doing the old build the custom PC since the pre-8088 days. Last year he saw the light and no longer chases after the PC desktop market. He's moved to a few custom servers and laptops.
For my part I get calls when he has the need to check on what to do for repairs. Laptops are dominant here so desktops are rare and getting rarer.
Not only that, I often find these custom desktops to have slipshod Windows installs. And not one has the install routine for the end user to refer to when Windows needs a reload.
Not a business I would start today.
I've got a newspaper ad in my area coming out next week, ads out on facebook and a few of my colleagues supporting me by mentioning us in forums that they frequently visit. However....the most traffic we've gotten on our site has been 63 views and that was our first day it was up. (most likely from facebook personal friends of mine) We don't have a fancy website but we do have try and offer the best-in-class for what money can buy...basically we get all the parts after you pay us, construct it and then ship it to you. And we barely charge anything for service as there are only 2 of us that own and operate it. However....this fails to seem to generate appeal in the local area....so what advice do people have for widespread advertising?
