Tips and tweaks for a Vista gaming laptop?

Oct 8, 2007 4:36AM PDT

Hi all,

I will appreciate any tips or tweaks to improve performance as much as possible when playing games with a laptop loaded with Vista Ultimate.

The only one I know so far is to disable Aero so the GPU will be less stressed.

Thanks

UAC as well.

Our Vista laptops are now running smoothly without UAC. I sure hope Microsoft didn't invest too much time in that.

Hi all can you tell me what is UAC and where is it,thank you.

Please.

I think you could type What is UAC? at google.com to find an instant answer. We have a search in this forum as well.

I am not slighting you but do try the search tools.

Thank you Wayne at least you realised that i am not as they say computer literate,if i knew what it meant i would not have asked. It's like asking someone to look up a word when they dont know how to spell it.

And imagine those that don't know what it does?

This is a bad sign. If you did your research (I did supply the spelling) you could learn what UAC does and decide if you need it or not.

I've found UAC to be a nuisance as well as cause unexplained failures.

Sorry.

I won't tolerate that but had hoped you could become more self sufficient. The idea is not to hand you fish but teach a little fishing.

If you don't want to dive in a little I fear you'll be visiting service counters and more.

Wow Bob...

But you didn't teach him to fish. You said turn off UAC. If you said that the UAC feature in Vista (try google for the info), you would have probably helped the person.

Forums like these are for exactly people like that. People who need just a little hand holding and a nudge in the right direction. Not a slam in the face.

Anytime.

Anytime fayruss. One suggestion; since your forum profile is not filled out, it might be helpful to add your first name at the bottom of each post you submit (even if it's not your real name). This makes it less likely for people to get the gender nouns mixed up.

Good luck and let us know if we can help further.

I didn't tell him to use a search tool. But let's think about it. If we don't do such we are likely to be poorer since we would also be calling tech support and calling in the Geeksquad to fix our PCs.

Here we tend to help one another and ourselves.

Some will flame members and moderators for not handing out fish. This helps no one. If you feel they need fish then just add your answer and move on.

Trust me Bob; that wasn't a flame, just a spark.

I have been scouring different types of boards over the years trying to find one that I could stick with and contribute. But in every case, I ran into a egocentric group of members hell bent on ripping anyone who they felt didn't meet the "geek" test. Being a Buzz Out Loud listener and a CNET fan for a while now, I've decided to hang around the forums and see if I can help out a bit.

I don't know you Bob. I would hope that by CNET giving you moderator status, they felt you had the technical experience and personality to help people in need of a good geek. I'll chalk this up to a misinterpretation of your original post and move on.

I do intend to help where I can, so I'll see you around the ranch...
