TIP: Real Time Clock battery replacement

Jun 4, 2009 7:35AM PDT

I have been storing my Compaq NC 8000 with the battery removed and the last time I used it the time was off and Microsoft Genuine something or other was upset. I reset the date and time and everything was OK but I decided to replace the RTC battery located under the LCD bezel. It is a CR2016 coin battery with a little two-wire connector soldered to tabs spot welded to the battery. I found the battery at my hardware store, soldered the leads to it, stuck it into a piece of heat shrinkable tubing and slid it into place. It works fine.

I never did find the battery and connector assembly on the internet but if it is out there it probably costs more than the $2.99 price of the battery.
