General discussion

tinyurl

can we stop using tinyurl's? No offence to anyone, they are great if your inclass and need to not a long url quickly but on the web where you can click 'em or copy them, i would like the whole url.

Its scary clicking one and not knowing where one will end up!

The Reason
Feb 14, 2006 9:51AM PST

Its considered etiquette to use them. Long URLS make the page stretch out, when you are in a forum, it looks bad.

netiquette - great!

[tinyurl-link] - [Short title of site]

format?

I usually try to, sometimes I forget but I will make sure to include a short description right by the link.

How about using BBS?
Feb 14, 2006 10:35AM PST

Cnet has disabled HTML in the forums for security reasons, but BBS is alive and well. Using that method you can make the displayed link short, and the title of the site, but mousing over it will tell you exactly where you're going. Feel free to click here for more information.

Need Real Forum Software
Feb 14, 2006 10:26AM PST

What we really need is real forum software. This stuff c|net uses is a real drag. At least if we could use some basic HTML (or bbcode if the admins have an HTMLphobia) then we could make links of little chunks of text.

Don't even get me started on how hard it is to keep up with threads...
