Time Machine Icon Blues

Hi all, my first post here so I hope someone can help.

The time machine icon does not respond when clicked, however the right click menu appears to run TM ok on my external disc. I am running OSX Lion on mac book pro.

the one in the dock or the one on the desktop (the hard drive you back up to)?

Thanks for your reply. The icon in the dock does not respond to clicking, but the right click menu works ok.

Go to your applications folder

locate the Time Machine app and double (left) click it.

If it launches correctly, cancel out of it.

Go to the dock and drag the Time Machine icon out of the dock and onto the desktop. It will disappear in a puff of smoke.
Drag the Time Machine app from the Applications folder and down into the dock. The other icons will move out of the way to make room for it.
Once in the dock, let go of the mouse.

Now try a left click to launch from the dock
