Feb 4, 2004 9:48PM PST

For reasons beyond me- I'd like to find out a way to(reversible if possible) cause the tile view option to be gone-like a registry entry set to "0"...?? can be done???

I'm looking for a way to remove the Tiles option from the Views box you can open in a window to select "Thumbnails-icons-detail, etc"

Is this in "Explorer" or other?

In either case, you have work to do.

1. Go get REGMON (works in XP) http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/source/regmon.shtml

2. Just before changing that setting, fire up REGMON

3. Find the registry key that changes.

Close down regmon and use REDEDT32 to change the PERMISSIONS on the key in question to lock it down.

Explorer-in the views select box- I downloaded and tried the RegMon-take a screen shot just before clicking the view and changing to tiles- WAAAY too much information displayed for me to figure it out- and it's sitting there actively scrolling down as things go on in the registry- I'll just tell them, forget it-, I half expect some tweaker has it figured out but it's way too buried for me-I tried searching the registry for " Views" thinking it might be a menu of the available options with a 1-or zero to deselect the availibility- apparently not... thanks any way- learned something nonetheless....rough idea why an XP registry is 50+ MB.....

Ha- after some more questioning and thinking

I found the cleanup and the fix- http://www.windows-help.net/WindowsXP/troub-11.html fix for not remembering windows settings- I found they wanted to stop the reversion to tiles ( which was being caused by folder count) so I did the cleanup suggested in the article- and the tweak for large counts of folders- I'm trying 1000 to begin with....

It really was kind of like that--

Figuring out what they really had in mind at it's most basic level-I'm trying to convince them I should have some extra compensation due to mental epitaxial passivated distortion. Most of my thought processes are directed at the Vax 35xxs and UNIX/Atlas part of the job, then they roll up needing something on modern era 'puters, but it's my brain going silly putty- and I won't even mention the TYAN mb that will boot with a 1.6P4 but not a 1.8 ?? who cares as long as I can toss it soon.HAGD...
