I am looking for feedback on Tiger Direct. Who has purchased from them? What have been your experiences? Good or bad?

Based in my area.

TigerDirect is based in my area. I used to enjoy their catalogs for the interesting descriptions they would give to things. They had a real knack for cheapening a nice piece of technology by making some stupid statement about it, like "All the neighbors will be jealous when they see your new cold cathode light kit".

I ordered one thing from them once, and it came, a little late but it came. They always had a good selection of motherboards and CPUS compared to other catalogs.

However, compared to Newegg.com, they don't compete.

I gague an etailer by what kind of laptops they carry. Tiger Direct sells laptops as old as Pentium II-400MHz as new. Another one that does this (in fact they're owned by Tiger) is Global Computer. I don't trust a company that does that. On top of that, they don't carry the latest models. I wouldn't buy a notebook from them.

I completely agree about the notebooks they carry - they sell old junk. There are much better Internet retailers that you can purchase from. And see my post below - you better read their terms of purchase. If you get something that is not working, they probably won't exchange it. What that means is that you end up spending another $100 or so shipping a broken product back to the manufacturer.

Better Prices Elsewhere

Not a bad selection of products, but they don't hold a candle to Newegg.com. Newegg is consistantly the price leader on just about anything computer related, it seems. You can also use a price scanner site to do a quick price search of items your shopping for.

Hope that helps.

Tiger does have lots of offbeat items

But they're not good for mainstream stuff, they can't outprice Newegg, i have to agree. I want stock in Newegg. Happy

Go for it

I have purchased systems and products from Tiger, no problems. They honor thier warranties and tech support is good. You may hold for a while as I believe they are in Canada, but they will generally help you out.

Just pay close attention to thier pricing. Sometimes the price is with a rebate, other times the product is a referb. DON'T BE AFRAID OF THE REFURBED EQUIPMENT EITHER!!! I have a fax machine here I have owned for 10 years purchased from Tiger Direct, and it still works great. It was a refurb. And hey, even if there's a problem, they will take care of you and you've saved some dough in the process.

No hesitation here, go for it.

I purchased a $400 Panasonic printer from them in 2004. The item was broken when it arrived, but they refused to exchange it - I was forced to deal with Panasonic per their purchase terms. I will not buy from them again.
