Question

Ticking noise from engine

Oct 24, 2016 11:04AM PDT

Hi I just bought a used i40 136 aut. from 12.
I noticed a ticking sound from the engine. It is most noticeable in idle.. I'm wondering if this is just the way this motor sounds, or if I shoud take it to a mechanic?

I've made a short recording of the sound:

Any thoughts?

Answer
that's NOT a "ticking" noise, but much stronger

Sounds like it's about to toss a rod and piston.

Thanks for your input. I'll take it to a mechanic and ask what he thinks.

Yup It's better to solve such problems in real world then an online virtual world. In case of cars you can expect much suggestions from online people and professional. These kind of problems can be identify better by testing them. So it is good to take it to a mechanic.
