Answer
Only one thing cures it

That is to just change to a new email address, then update your friends and family on it, and places you do online purchases and bill payments.

If you keep the same address, then start marking all spam as "Junk" from a right clk in thunderbird to train it to automatically send it to the junk or trash folder. Also can keep it from coming to your thunderbird email if you use the webmail access from your provider and go there and mark all the spam as spam, so it gets blocked at server level. You have to do the latter first each time for awhile before downloading email to thunderbird. Eventually that will block most of the ones that come regular.

You may have exposed your email address at some forum, or when requested at a questionable site, you provided it, and they were sellers of such information to spammers.

What many do is have a trash email address and use that for all such, keeping their main email address secret to only trusted people and sites.

Also, if you have upset someone who had your email address, one way of bombing someone's email is to then go and sign them up at many sites offering "free" stuff. That for sure will have spammers soon flooding an email account.

Thank you for your help. There is a little circle to the right of the email and when i click on it it turns orange, I assume that marks it as junk ? Then do I go ahead and delete it after it is marked ? I also click on my junk folder and it is always empty. Any help would be appreciated
Thanks Dean

I just read the question and answer to my wife and she said it was clear to her. Maybe OP isn't native English speaker?

Let's try German

Oddly his profile has all the letters of windows, but seems there's a German word "dinows" too. Google translation.
=======================

Whatever you do don't open any of them.

Delete them.
Mark them as spam.
Change your mail addy.

Which ever option is easiest for you.

I get some....not 100's.....I just delete the things.
They tend to go away over a short period of time.
