General discussion

Thunderbird and using folders in it

Sep 5, 2007 12:29PM PDT

I'm thinking of moving to Thunderird because of some problems I've been having with Outlook Express and learning that Outlook will not likely help.

My problem with OE is that I use folders to save emails until I can transfer them over to the hard drive. My problem was that my folders were 2.46gb and OE only allows up to 2gb for folders, which has really slowed OE down.

I've tried to find the info myself, but haven't had any luck. Does anyone know how much space is allowed on Thunderbird for folders?

Or, does anyone have 400+ folders and Thunderbird still work okay?

Thank you!!!

I've been using Mozilla Thunderbird since 2003.

I started using Mozilla Thunderbird on my laptop for about a year. I have never gotten a message saying that I had to delete messages. I don't know what a person would want to do with 400+ folders. I manage four email accounts with seven folders. I use special rules to sort my emails out. I use a folder for my wife's emails, CNET, Kandle business(not mine), Lottery and Campbells. I have no problems and will NOT go back to Outlook Express, which manages 1 email account.

I usually don't get emails to delete messages
Sep 6, 2007 2:13AM PDT

I used to, but I try to keep my e-mails moved and deleted as much as possible to avoid it. Plus, my server increased my space, so that helped a lot as well.

I get anywhere from 500 to 700 emails every day, sometimes more. Because of the amount of e-mails I get, I have to try and keep it as organized as possible. So far, the best way I have found to do this is to give each of my clients a file, then when they e-mail something I need to save, I pull it into their folder. Then, every so often, I pull them into a folder in my documents, where I also have a folder for each client. Once they are pulled over, I go ahead and delete the emails from OE.

Exporting the e-mails and then importing them over as I need them is too time comsuming since I may only need to check one thing in the message. This is especially true since my OE has been running so slowly.

Anyhow, that is what I use my 400+ folders for Wink

Thanks for letting me know your experiences. I plan to switch, just don't know how soon I will get to change.

Thanks again!

Can anyone who understands TB tell me how to stop it from showing my real name as sender. I left the normal box you use blank and still my name is shown?

click on the account

change the account name to what you want it along with your name. It will put what you type instead of what is there.

After you change it

You have to close it. Then reopen it. For some reason the changes don't take affect until it is restarted.

Since it's hotmail

it may be different, since they use the http server.

What does your hotmail account say?

login to the webserver

click on options

click on more options

click on edit personal information

what does the account say?

edit it and change it. I'm thinking it might be reading the information from this. But then again you say Outlook express doesn't do this.

Last resort would be to uninstall Mozilla Thunderbird.

right click on start

left click on explore

programs files

delete the Mozilla Thunderbird folder

restart your computer

install Mozilla Thunderbird and make the setup read the way you want it to.

Now what do you have?
