I don't duplicate web content (sorry), but the long and short answer is the drive is supported only by the 48bitlba and incurs some wrath of new things requires new ways.
Read http://www.48bitlba.com for full details.

thoughtWinMCE2004(SP1) OS Computer>DiskManagement>NewPartitionWizard...
...would let me create (PRIMARY partition radio button in Computer>Disk Management) FAT32 parttion but evidently NOT (otherwise I wouldn't be here. The only choice in the dropdown menu for file system on the 1st partition is NTFS, no matter what allocation unit size I chose.)
reason I want (at least 1) FAT32 partition on my new WD 250 GB IDE-ATA/100 hard drive that I have put in a QPS 5.25'' EXternal enclosure with USB 2.0 and FireWire 800 (but it's hooked up to my MCE HP Pavilion m400y via USB during my unsuccessful attempt at partitioning the drive)...is because I think I might want to use this EXternal drive with my other ABIT BH6 mobo computer (or is it BH6 V1.1???...I'm not entirely sure, but either way, the max HD capacity that's supported by either version is 40GB as far as I can tell from their webpages: BH6>BIOS NV> http://abit-usa.com/downloads/bios/bios_revision.php?categories=1&model=98
BH6 V1.1>BIOS NX> http://abit-usa.com/downloads/bios/bios_revision.php?categories=1&model=123 )...on this ABIT computer, I'm running WinME (might put Win98SE on this computer 1 day/somtime...but for now, mostly the WinME), thus FAT32...
...so I'm thinking at least 1 partition of 40GB, maybe two 40GB(40,000 bytes) partitions...and the rest of this 250GB drive in NTFS file system...but I can't even get past the 1st item on the to-do list...(which brings up: does it matter which order I create the partitions in the different file systemS in order for ALL the partitions to work with ALL the different intended OSes...or I can go ahead and create da NTFS partition(s) as I need them just because I can apparently create them now then worry about creating the FAT32 partition(s) later when I got an answer from this forum...and still have ALL partitions working with ALL OSes??...And what allocation unit size should I choose for any given FAT32 partition? what about allocation unit size for any given NTFS partition?)
More info/questions: (1) I followed a instruction source that I have and skipped over 'DYNAMIC DISK' thus I chose 'BASIC disk' type, (2) jumpered the WD drive as what WD call 'SINGLE' meaning NO jumper SHUNT installed ANYwhere on the drive's jumper pins, (3) in Computer>Disk Management, checked 'perform a QUICK format' (4) should I check 'enable file & folder compression'?? What does this do?? (5) can drives (internal OR external for that matter) be partitioned & formatted partially as in on a needed basis...then balance part&form LATER when needed...AND there wouldn't be any data loss?? (or this is not the case at all??)...that's all I can think of right now, any more info u need, please let me know...
...and thanks in advance for your help!!
