Thoughts on the Lumix LZ2 compared with Canon/Sony

Mar 2, 2005 7:46AM PST

1) Has anyone had a chance to see a review of Panasonic's Lumix LZ2 camera?

2) Does anyone know when it will launch at retail?

3) What are your thoughts on how this compact camera compares with offerings from Sony (P series) and Canon (SD series)? It seems to offer some unique advantages in having 6x optical zoom, image stabilization, AA batteries, longer battery life along with great image quality (the last observation is based on dpreview's appraisal of the FX7).
4) Do Canon's SD400-500 offerings address some of the concerns mentioned in camera reviews with the SD300 such as edge softness, purple finginng, lens flare, battery life, etc.?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Does anybody know a price range for the LZ1 or LZ2?

I have all the same questions, and also am wondering what either the LZ1 or Lz2 is going to cost. These cameras look great on paper.

LZ1 and LZ2 prices are available
Mar 2, 2005 10:36PM PST

It is still too early to find any hands-on information about the Panasonic cameras and also the Canon SD400-500.

These cameras are not in the hands of the public yet and apparently not in the hands of reviewers.

However:

Amazon has the LZ1 and LZ2 listed on their website for delivery about April 10.

LZ1 - $250
LZ2 - $300

They are accepting pre-orders now.

The SD-500 is available (in-store) at Best Buy and also at on-line sources as of 3/10/05. I purchased one and so far am very happy with it!
