General discussion

This is getting so childish, it is beyond absurd!

Reporter asks to watch CNN on Air Force One
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- It wasn't the price of gasoline, Darfur or the rebuilding effort in New Orleans that preoccupied the White House press corps Thursday aboard a flight on Air Force One.

It was what channel they could watch on the White House televisions, Fox or CNN.

They are trying to make an issue out of nothing. I am baffled at all the sniping at Fox News Channel, because of their conservative leanings. Did anyone question previous administrations regarding which channel they had on the AFO?

What's absurd.....

It?s the Presidents sand box

If the press corps don?t like the rules of the sand box go play some place else?

to live there. Should be a free vote among the correspondents what they watch on the television bought by the American taxpayers.

Why?
Apr 28, 2006 11:43AM PDT

Why should we give the invited passengers some sort of claim that they have a right to determine the terms of their travel?

I think the whole thing is silly. Still, if the reporters are traveling as (sort-of) guests of the president then I don't see that they have the right to demand specific details about the entertainment they receive. If they don't like the television selection they are free to travel in a different plane and watch what they please. If one of them doesn't like the amenities on Air Force One then I'm sure we could find other people who would happily take up the empty seat.

Air Force One certainly belongs to the American people, but that does not mean the current primary occupant should not have any input on how things operate.

Of course, it's all moot anyway since the administration did agree to the request once it came up in a public way.

Therefore, it may not specifically ''belong to me,'' but during the time that I have it and use it, I have control, among many other things, of what's playing on the stereo. If you ask real nice, I will consider letting you listen to Country Music - but only when I'm not in the vehicle. Wink

If you made a big stink about what was being listened to while I was in control of the vehicle, I would likely do two things: 1) Never invite you to ride along again, and 2) Consider you a jerk (among other unfavorable terms).

The reporter in question was ''along for the ride.'' Should have had enough manners and respect to be as courteous as if riding in your vehicle or mine. I would not be surprised to discover that the whole affair was planned out ahead of time.

Ridiculous Sad

Shows the uni-dimensional thinking of this poor excuse

for a President. You'd better believe that Clinton, and even Dubya's Dad, read and listened to opinions of all stripes, both those they agreed with and those they did't. One reason for the consistently horrible decision-making characteristic of this Administration in all areas is that they only listen to what they want to hear, and blot out all that doesn't fit in with their preconceived notions. It's not only childish behavior on the part of the White House, it's disgusting, tragic, and destructive, all at the same time.

Really? Again... you know this how?

One reason for the consistently horrible decision-making characteristic of this Administration in all areas is that they only listen to what they want to hear, and blot out all that doesn't fit in with their preconceived notions.

I forgot you had a back-stage pass to all the White House events...

It's not only childish behavior on the part of the White House, it's disgusting, tragic, and destructive, all at the same time.

Disgusting that the President wants to control of the TV on his own plane? Yes, that is SO unrealistic.

So, in the end, what exactly was the purpose of your post other than to spew your irrational hatred for this administration?

... it's "his" while he occupies the office. He gets to decide what food is served in the dining facilities, what TV is on in the plane when he's flying, etc.

Do you have ANY idea how silly this makes you guys look?

You have to actually read the article
May 1, 2006 1:32AM PDT
Typical was Tony Snow, a syndicated columnist and former presidential speech writer for President Bush's father, who wrote that the White House ''was a wreck.'' He also said that Air Force One, after taking Clinton and some aides to New York following the inauguration, ''looked as if it had been stripped by a skilled band of thieves -- or perhaps wrecked by a trailer park twister.''

He went on to list all manner of missing items, including silverware, porcelain dishes with the presidential seal and even candy.

''It makes one feel grateful that the seats and carpets are bolted down,'' Snow fumed.

Except none of it happened. An official at Andrews Air Force Base, which maintains the presidential jets, told The Kansas City Star at the height of the controversy that nothing was missing. Bush himself acknowledged the same a few days later.
