if it works on that it's not hardware.
Dafydd.
I've been having some trouble with the PC randomly freezing, then the screen would become fuzzy and start flickering and would then shut down. That has been happening every so often for a while.
Today, while I was working on my other computer, I didn't notice, but the Asus had completely shut down (normally it will restart on its own). When I turned it back on, it started to boot like normal-BIOS, Windows loader, etc., but then it would get stuck on a black screen where, occasionally, what looked like WiFi bars would blink in the bottom corner.
Couldn't get it to boot normal at all. Was unable to boot into safe mode. Unable to do a system restore, or any of the usual things someone would try.
Then it went into a reboot loop, where it would literally turn on and then back off every 3-4 seconds. I was able to solve this by clearing the CMOS using the jumper.
So, my decision was to, since I basically only had command prompt to work with, format C: and try installing a fresh copy of Windows (8.1).
The first 3 or so times I tried to install a fresh copy, I got the same thing where it would flicker and shut down. I was eventually able to get it to run through the entire installation process successfully.
However, I started having some of the same problems and then (last night), when I turned the computer on, I could hear the fans, I can hear the motherboard beep, the hard drives kick on, but the display was non-existent.
Read a story about someone having issues with their CPU, so I decided to take out the heat shield, clean the old thermal paste off of both and reapply.
I was convinced that I had solved it..the Windows install disk booted the very first time...butttttt NO....So I am right back to where I started. Except without a copy of Windows installed on the machine.
Here's a link to a video of what's going on when I try to boot/install Windows 8.1.
(I cut out the parts waiting for windows to load, etc...whole move is only 1:15 or so.)

So is it the motherboard? Video card maybe?
I had the power supply checked.
I'm 90% sure the Ram is fine,
Have tried with multiple hard drives..
