General discussion

this guy has a future *replacing Jay Leno?*

Dec 1, 2003 2:55AM PST

"Reports that say something hasn't happened are interesting to me, because as we know, there are known unknowns; there are things we know we know.

"We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns - the ones we don't know we don't know."

Made sense in a way, Jonah...

Jonah, it made sense in a way, intel, something in which he deals with constantly.
It's kind of like when you know something about somebody else - that's a plus. But if he knows that you know, you lose that plus. But if you know that he knows that you know, that can put it back on the plus side.
Think about new intel that came in. Some things you shouldn't have been able to find out, so not knowing them is expected and not surprising. If that intel shows one of those things that you shouldn't have been able to find out, you must consider if they wanted you to find it out and take that into account.
Then there are new unknown categories that may appear, like nothing that you have before experienced, an "unknown unknown", if you will.

"better an unknown unknown that you know, than a known unknown that you don't know" or was it "better an unknown known unkown that you do know than an unknown unknown that you do know is unknown"?

... how is he at economics? Alan Greenspan isn't going to last forever, and we need a new economic double-talker in training!

Hi, Jonah.

Definitely the latter! BTW, please don't read anything into my lack of the usual greeting in the previous message -- it would have interrupted the ellipses, though I probably should have put this explanation later in that message!
