This disappoints me: Taiwan AUO panels inside Samsungs?

by Toodles69 / January 24, 2009 9:32 AM PST

I just found this on AVS, where people are discussing that Samsung puts cheap panels (the C=CMO and A=AUO Taiwan) inside Samsung 630 and below series TVs...and that only the S panels are REAL samsungs?

I didn't pay much attention to this until today when I saw this post and pic:

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showpost.php?p=15622766&postcount=209

This is a pic someone took through the back vent grill of a 530 series Samsung TV with an "A" on the sticker on the back:

so does this mean my "C" panel is also really not a Samsung panel ?
I was believing that this only happened on Samsung pc monitors, but these are on current TVs!!

I would be interested to hear what Mr Samsung or HD_tech can say to this.
Thanks in advance.

oh yeah; i forgot:
what that picture shows is "AUO optronics" and "made in Taiwan" on the sticker on the panel inside the Samsun 530 series LCD.

Can't comment...

This is one of those issues where someone has already issued a suggestion of legal action, which pretty much silences me.

Until our appropriate departments allow me to, I just can't speak to that issue.

There are only 2 reasonable possibilities for the Samsung Tech.

1. No comment permitted. This is only reasonable if the allegation is true. If the allegation is false, there is no legal risk in commenting.

2. Comment permitted. The allegation is false, all panels are from Korea.

Not being permitted to comment is an admittance that the allegation is true, no ifs, ands, or buts.

Now, this is not the first time this kind of Bait N Switch has occurred, and Samsung does make some excellent product. But doing this in mid-production in the same model line with the heart and soul of the set, the panel, and finding many displays on the floor at the stores with S panels is misrepresentation, if performance differences are significant. Reports from owners suggests there are significant differences in performance.

It appears that the switch includes 550 and 630 TV below 52", with 52" *possibly* being all S panels.

I think Samsung should know that people will be keeping close watch on the labeling in the future. If the S disappears from the label, that would suggest cover-up and continued outsourcing. People will still be searching through vents and watching when repairs are made, so now that this cat is out of the bag there is no return to status quo previous.

about this:

"2. Comment permitted. The allegation is false, all panels are from Korea."

well, that is pretty much dealt with, as I can see clearly see "made in ---AN" on that sticker (look at the pic on my 1st post), that's GOT to be Taiwan, as it's well known where AU Optronics are from.

And if you read here, you'll see all panels CANNOT be from Korea.
This is a well known fact now: AUO and CMO supply panels for Samsung:

who can deny THOSE ?
quote from article in 2nd link:
" ..The deal will make Taiwanese company CMO the world's top producer of 50"-range flat panel LCD TVs. Samsung has also placed orders for 32", 40", and 42" TVs, a deal that makes the company CMO's largest client...."

doesn't matter
by jcphu / October 11, 2009 4:00 PM PDT

taiwan made or not...it doesnt matter because you will always see taiwan made components in korean brand (samsung for this matter), or chinese components in taiwanese brands (acer, asus, msi...etc.) or korean made components in chinese brands. in fact, a taiwanese company FOXCONN just acquired sony's LCD division in mexico to produce their own products.

But the bottom line is, Samsung is just not that great.

weird

I don't know what's wrong with Samsung using AUO's and CMO's panels. I honestly don't think the AUO's and the CMO's panels are inferior than Samsung's. Even toshiba and sony are using AUO's and CMO's panels, so that means AUO and CMO produce good stuff. And CMO and AUO are not some off brands, they are the world's third and fourth largest LCD panel producers.

Those people who are complaining about this issue are really weird in my opinion. I mean you are already buying from Samsung, which is an indicator that you don't value quality at all, so what are you complaining about especially when AUO and CMO are not inferior than Samsung. If you really want some good quality TVs, you should have bought from Sharp or Sony (they are using AUO and CMO too, by the way). If you already chose to buy Samsung, then stop ranting.

I agree. I looked at all the displays in the store. The Samsung looked the best, so I bought it.

That's like complaining that all the transistors and caps aren't Samsung.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
