thinkpad x40 will not power on

Feb 26, 2007 2:35AM PST

I have a thinkpad x40 and it was running perfectly. Windows XP. One day, in the middle of something, the computer just shut off. No shut-down, the thing just went dark as if I had lost power.

I tried to restart it, and it powered up, went to the log-on screen, but any key-strokes and the laptop would beep at me and would not input the key-strokes. After trying this a few times, the computer would not even turn on.

Tried a few things. Removed battery and tried with only adapter power supply, tried my spare battery, nothing. When plugged in the battery icon will slowly flash green, but I cannot get any other signs of life from it. I tested my charger for the correct voltage and the tests came back fine.

Also removed memory and hard disk and reinstalled, still no change.

I am out of ideas, and really dont want to trash the computer, I love it and imagine the problem is some small hardware short or something, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again.

My X40 just did the exact same thing. Did you find a solution? I am a repair tech so I can always disassemble it but I was hoping for an idea of the right direction... thanks in advance.
