The move to no-lead (Pb) solder has made for more fragile solder joints. Often you can find it with about the 100 power microscope as you inspect the mainboard (both sides!)
I've fixed a few by touching up suspect solder work but at the cost of the time invested we only bother when it's a machine we can't replace.

My T20 (win XP; P.3; 256 ram) occasionally refuses to boot. It happened late last year for several weeks, and I was ready to sell it for parts, when it suddenly came back to life. It happened again yesterday and I am trying to revive it to no avail. Should I simply dump it? What could be the cause of this malfunction? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
