Castro healthy enough to live till 140 years old: doctor
May 19 4:47 PM US/Eastern
Email this story

Cuban President Fidel Castro, who turns 80 this year, enjoys vibrant health and will live to 140, his chief doctor said.

Doctor Eugenio Selman-Housein, who heads Castro's medical team, denied that the longtime leader has Parkinson's disease, as the CIA reportedly believes.

"Every day they invent a new one," Selman-Housein said. "He will live 140 years."

Castro's health, once a taboo subject in the communist-led island, has become a topic of discussion since he fainted in public in 2001 and slipped and fell before television cameras in October 2004.

Castro, who quit smoking his trademark cigars in 1986, has led Cuba since 1959. He turns 80 on August 13.

On our recent cruise I saw the sun rise over Cuba. Later on some Cubans on a raft tried to make it to our ship. I hear it happens all the time. Don't know what became of them.

Nice place where people keep trying to escape.

I suggest the Coast Guards to patrol

the coasts of FL a little more or even build a wall around the state so those illegal immigrants can't get here!

The problem is not Cubans coming here...
May 19, 2006 9:20PM PDT

it's Cubans escaping Cuba. What is wrong with Cuba that they have to risk their lives to get out? Maybe regime change is in Cuba in order (long. long overdue)?

You are so politically judgemental it's amazing. No consistency in your posts at all Mark. But that's nothing I am surprised about.

Mexicans are poor, have no jobs, landless and can't feed their families.

The Cubans have all that basically (not as much as they would want, I'm sure) but no freedom. Two problems that both deserve to be treated equally. And the reason why the US always treat the Cubans better is for propaganda purposes. Trying to show the Cubans what a wonderful life they can have here. The Mexicans on the other hand have a political system that isn't "competing" with capitalism and thus no reason to show them anything. In other words -> STOP THEM! I can guarantee you that if Mexico was a Socialist country, we wouldn't be talking about stopping them. But you knew that already!

An additional comment.

I wrote "Trying to show the Cubans what a wonderful life they can have here.". The purpse of that is actually to try to get the Cubans to understand how horrible Socialism is, which it has become on Cuba and therefore I hope for a new revolution, but not that gives the USA the right to use the island as a whorehouse.

you have to comprender
May 20, 2006 8:42AM PDT

to be free also mean to have something. los mejicanos and other people from latinoamerica have nothing. some have mucho others have nada. people who have nada are not free! most of mejicanos who come to usa have nada. thats why they come. they are not free mark! and you want big wall to stop them. i think that is very egoista.

Gabriela.

While what you say may be true...
May 20, 2006 9:44AM PDT

that does NOT give them the right to come here illegally, sell drugs or anything else. And we DO have the right to insist our laws are obeyed and enforced. They have a country and a government. That is what they should focus on.

We are bending over backwards to solve the problem and be fair to them. Most other countries would just kick them out or throw them in a hole, and that includes Mexico, which is very harsh on illegal immigrants. So don't give us "egoista".

And it's not true that they all have nada.

I'm still trying...

I'm still trying to figure out "egoista".

As I said
May 20, 2006 10:36AM PDT

"some have mucho others have nada. the ones with mucho dont come to usa because theyr happy. those who have nada have to find a solution and usa is close. if they have another place im secure they will go. usa shows on tv about how good american dream is and people in latinoamerica think its like the movies. its not easy to have nada in latinoamerica but mark think evryone can if they want. that is not true.

Some who come here don't have mucho OR nada...
May 20, 2006 10:53AM PDT

but maybe they want to make more or cause mischief. Don't assume that everyone who comes here illegally is poor and looking for work because it's not true.

And you can't expect Americans to just take it all lying down eiher. Our concerns are legitimate as well.

Like I said, we are trying to fix the problem and be fair to everyone. Who else does that?

Mexicans are free to leave Mexico. Cubans are NOT free to leave Cuba. If they try they are punished.

See the difference?
