I am thinking of a 1080 p HDTV that is 50" in diagonal length.

what other technical specs / features should i look for ?

1) contrast ratio ?
2) number of connectors

and what else ?

Don't buy cheap

Buy from one of the higher-rated companies: Panasonic, Sony, Samsung, Sharp and a few others. There is a reason why the better TVs cost $300 more than the cheaper ones, as by evidence of the return lines at Costco.

the brand name tv's will have everything you want... good PQ

the best PQ is plasma's with Pioneer, Panasonic & then last Samsung.

For LCD's Sony & Samsung are mostly tied in PQ now days.... BUT it can depend, like if you compaired a LED backlight model (Sony XBR8 or Samsung 9 Series) vs None LED backlight model it would be a big diffrence in PQ.
