Thin TV including electronics (not just screen)

Aug 11, 2018 12:51PM PDT

i currently have a 55EA8800 and it just died on me. Im now in the hunt for a new TV and notice my 4 year old 55EA8800 is thinner by over 50% of the next thinnest?

Can that be? electronics included my 55EA8800 is 1 inch thick at its thickest point and i cant seem to find any TV out there that's under 1.5'.

Any pointers, thanks

That is, just like most electronics if you squeeze the space then temperatures and cooling suffers. If you must have it that thin, visit the usual TV shops and ask sales to see the thinnest models.

Or hit Sony.com, LG.com, Samsung.com and use their chat and phone numbers for pre-sale questions.

I'm have been checking every brand i can find regardless of price.

The new gen LG OLED's are 1.9 inches at their thickest and the best i found was one of the high end Samsung coming in @ 1.5'.

Make no sense to me either, i'm going to hit up a bestbuy later today and see for myself.

Silly stuff, really

Splitting hairs over a 0.5” difference in thickness when it is already under 2” is idiotic.

Focus on PQ and features and your life will be easier.

out of context

Agreed, thickness should play a small part of a TV purcahse, but the 55EA8800 specifically came with a surrounding speaker frame which I've really gown to like.

if possible i would like to use the speaker with my new TV purcahse and to accomplish this the new TV would need to have similar thickness to the 55EA8800. The TV goes in front of the speaker frame & the look diminishes if the TV is stick 2-3 inches out.

0.5 inches is nothing to worry about, i was just shocked to see a 4 year old TV representing the thinnest TV someone can purcahse today.

Look at LG OLED

They have at least a couple of flagship models that are around ~3mm thick.

Electronics included

I've seen some very thin panels, but once you include the rest of the components the tinniest I've seen with the electronic included is 1.5, although i just found a Samsung unit boasting 1.4... still shocking considering my 4 year old TV is 1' even.

How is this shocking?

You have a very unique custom request- compatibility with a 4+ year old frame. Most folks find a 1.4” thin HDTV better than adequate. Especially when PQ and smart tv features are better as well.
