Thesis Topic Help? Jayce from Beijing

by biskit27 / December 2, 2007 10:20 PM PST

Hey Buzzers, this is Jayce from Beijing,

I'm majoring in bilingual hosting and it's time to write my graduation thesis!! I just wanted in to see if I could maybe get your guys help in coming up with a topic for me.

It can relate to anything we've studied, a wide range of things from traditional and electronic media management to linguistics, audio/video editing, journalism, speech, writing, cross cultural relations & communications. Media and broadcast in general.

I was considering something having to do with the internet etc. as a new avenue for media, or something relating to new media in general, new distribution methods, user generated content as a product, etc. etc.

You guys always come up with interesting avenues of thought and debate, and i would love to get your input!!

Thanx in advanced from Beijing!

Jayce Haliwell

I recall that sinage/billboards in Beijing were corrected...
by shawnlin / December 3, 2007 7:56 AM PST

Two ideas...

1) I recall that sinage/billboards in Beijing were corrected for proper English some time ago (last year?) in preparation for the 2008 Olympic Games. I wondered if there were other efforts through electronic media doing the same thing, if the changes were helpful/effective, and who benefited the most from those efforts (demographic - particular ages or class or type of job, etc).

2) Also - what, if any, efforts are being made to bridge the "digital divide" for elders and those in rural areas.

That's all I got for now - have fun!

Best,
Shalin

Is this for university or secondary school?

If you are in college, come up with your own idea. Otherwise, you're not qualified to get a degree. It sounds harsh, but it's the truth.

Definately Bittorrent/P2P
by shantanubala / December 4, 2007 11:31 AM PST

Go for a thesis about Bittorrent and P2P as well as the common question about the legality of their use.

I wrote a small paper (not really a thesis) about it, but it's a great topic to work with, as well as the various different views.

examine methods computers use to understand human grammars and how to make them work better (it doesn't have to be a practical approach... assume infinite computing capability) so that real speech recognition would be possible. Think Star Trek.
