Theres more than 1 kind of hacker to fear

by stick joe / January 31, 2009 8:06 AM PST

Most people don't know there's another form of hacker out there called "phreaker".

Phreakers break into phone systems & phone networks.

They're little known to the public but they've been around the entire time "phone phreaking" your faces off.

And they're just as dangerous and trouble making as hackers are. They're half of the people who steal your identities and credit card numbers.

Spread this around please. The more people know that phone phreakers exist, the more able everyone will be to protect themselves from their antics.

Just letting everyone know what you're up against.

The archetypal 1960's Phone Phreak just wanted to make
by Ziks511 / January 31, 2009 9:32 PM PST

a long distance call all the way around the world to himself, often under the influence of mind altering substances that made this seem a profound act and profoundly funny at the same time.

One of the characters went by the name of Captain Crunch, because apparently the whistle available at one time from Captain Crunch cereal, could open long distance networks.

I was really surprised to hear this term re-emerge connected with identity theft. You have given us insufficient evidence to make up our minds, got any connections to news stories about this stuff?
