Question

There is so much wrong with my computer! :0

Apr 22, 2017 9:26AM PDT

My laptop( hp stream 14 ) is messed up and I'm not sure what wrong I feel like every since I have download windows 10 about 2 years ago it has progressively gotten worse. Not to mention the amount storage on this thing is microscopic but I can fix that. But I have tried multiple time to update to new versions only windows 10 and my laptop won't let it happen. Then I tried using and sd card to look at some photos I took and my computer wouldn't read that. Then I tried to connect to the wifi at the place I was at and the dang airplane mode was on was which i never ever turn on. So I tried turn it off and it was stuck on. So I tried looking up why that would happened, tried different things that people suggested and it still wouldn't turn off. So since there was so much wrong with the laptop at this point I try doing a full on reset of the laptop and it gave me a message say something like "Unable to reset" "No changes were made". So I don't know what the heck is going on with it I got annoyed with it. I'm just wonder if any one has had problems like this with simmalr laptops and what you did or if you have any clue as to what is up this this thing. So uh yeah thanks for taking time to read it.

What you have is an Email and Web machine.

Noted at https://www.cnet.com/products/hp-stream-14-ax010nr/review/ you must not try to use this like a normal PC. You'll never install apps then use it for email and web access.

Folk that try to use it for more get very upset.

-> If you want the full up PC, shop for that next time.

Here we have a few like this at the office. We don't use them for heavy work.

I understand that. I have a normal desktop pc at home. So I almost never use it for more than just browsing the internet haha like I don't even use any Microsoft office stuff. I have maybe two pictures on it. I'm just super confused why the airplane mode is stuck on. Since it's the one thing I can use.

Forgot how we fix our web machines.

We perform a factory reset. Remember since there is no storage on these machines we lean on USB memory sticks for pictures and files as well as the cloud. We rarely backup what's on this micro PC.

How to factory reset varies with the machine. So you have to check with its maker for exact reset steps.

As To It Being Stuck On Airplane Mode
Apr 22, 2017 10:44AM PDT

First, check to see if you've accidentally pressed the wifi button/switch on your computer. The wifi button/switch turns wifi on and off and if you've accidentally switched it, to off then it won't work. I'm not sure about your specific computer, but for many, the Fn+PrntKey function turn WiFi on and off. (Some use Fn+F2, or maybe it's a simple button with a wireless image on it.) If it's toggled off, then you lose WIFI and you enter Airport Mode. Toggle it on and WiFi returns.

The next steps involve temporarily disabling, then re-enabling wifi in Windows 10 Control Panel-Network and Sharing Center-Change Adapter Settings. Once there, RIGHT click on the wifi adapter, choose "Disable". Allow it to disable, then RIGHT click on the same adapter, choose "Enable".

If that doesn't get it done, I usually visit the computer manufacturer's website and download, then install the latest wifi adapter for your computer.

Hope this helps.
