The Yorkdale Christmas Movie

Dec 12, 2003 3:45AM PST

Well, it's taken two years to complete, including a software update to fix
a transparency bug, and a major computer upgrade to get the power to
end those freezes. Finally, however, my second Flash project is ready...

The Yorkdale Christmas Movie!

If you have a fast connection, you can view the web page directly.
Be warned, the SWF is 4.07 MB, so takes a few minutes to load:
http://www.yorkdale.co.uk/YDxmas/ydxmas.html

For anyone on dial-up or a slow line, you may prefer to download
the 3.75 MB zip, then run the web page from your hard drive:
http://www.yorkdale.co.uk/YDxmas/YDxmas.zip

It was created using Coffeecup Firestarter 6.5, and offers a full 4 minutes
of seasonal joy. I hope you enjoy it, and wish everyone Happy Holidays!

Good presentation.

Did I hear Tennessee Ernie Ford's voice?

Absolutely marvelous!

I remember your first web page, which I thought was nice. You certainly have worked hard, and come a long way!

I envy your creativeness and skill!

I've saved it, BTW, and will send it on to others.

Thanks, Dale, and Merry Christmas!

Almost seven days of Christmas better than none...
Dec 12, 2003 9:20AM PST

OK, this would probably be better posted in one of the help forums, but here goes anyway.

I used Download Accelerator Program (DAP) to download the 3.75 MB zip file.

Once opened, it playes till it gets almost done with the 7th day of Christmas, then the audio cuts out but the video portion keeps playing.

Any suggestions?

Update...
Dec 12, 2003 10:40AM PST

I was finally able to view and hear the whole presentation.

Since I did not know if I had a corrupted download using DAP, I simply downloaded the 3.5 MB zip with Netscape 7.1.

The only way I could play the whole presentation was to close down everything but Explorer, Systray and Norton.

The time I tried to play it without the above step, I got some type of Explorer error and it had to be shut down.

Sounds like you have a resources problem, Tim

Yes the file is heavy, that's why it has taken two years to complete. Basically I started on this for Xmas '01, but my old 'puter kept locking up with the amount of hog Coffeecup demanded.

The SWF file is bloated, because Firestarter doesn't compress it as well as Flash itself would, but having started it Iw as determined to complete it, specially since Coffeecup finally fixed the transparency bug of previous versions (namely background transparency of images didn't work).

If you find it difficult to run in the web page, then try it without by clicking the SWF itself.

NT Probably right Dale. Nice presentation.

Hi, Roger.

I wish they didn't have the "Back to forum" icons at the top of the "post/go back" screen -- I know that I occasionally think I've already posted and hit that button by mistake...
