Emeril is the worst
He has NO stage presence and his show is HORRIBLE to watch. Why does he need a band ??? Is he competing with Letterman?
I enjoy Rachel Ray ...
... what's wrong with her?
It looks like I'm lucky.
I've not heard of either of them that I can recall.
My culinary skills are limited to "depression food", with a little Oriental, South-of-the-Border, and Italian thrown in.
Thown in pretty well describes my style.

I've not seen Rachel Ray's ...
... new "Martha Stewart" like daytime talk show, but I've seen her on Food Network. She does one show where she goes to various places and gets 3 meals for $40/day. We've actually gone to a few of the places when we travel. Her other cooking show is (was?) mostly real food like you describe -- I think you would enjoy her. I'm a bit puzzled at anyone calling her a snob!
well it is the food channel
I have learned quite a bit from watching the cooks. many tips for my peasant fare. several of the guys make manly meals. the fella, alton brown, is sort of a culinary 'mr wizard'(favorite old show of mine). my aunt who is 80 is still trying to figure out how Gianna DeLaurentis stays so skinny making pasta all day. rachel is one gal who has made a remarkable career coming from humble beginnings. her candle is definitely burning at both ends. 30min meals is everyday simple and 40 a day is informative as pointed out.
I have it on when politics and lack of sports prevail, it's harmless background. muzak with food. relax and 'mangiare per vivere e non vivere per mangiare'**
**english equivalent: eat to live and not live to eat
By Konkel standards, this is offensive to any member that might like any of these hosts.
Paranoid schizophrenia! Delusions of persecution!
As a woodworm might opine.
There you go.....
....talking about opium again!
no it's the opinions of wormwoman
in case others were confused by woodworm reference. the OP is about the food channel, not discovery.
according to mary, only waste is persecuted, which produces good soil that helps us grow better flowers and vegetables.
Oh No, here I sit right now watching....
Rachel Ray. She's a hoot! She sounds like she's from the Maryland area
with a NY gesture's overlay added in. Her voice can be a bit irritating at
times, but her enthusiasm is great! She can come cook at my place anyday.
she is from upstate ny
see, there is more to life than food.
Her accent is ....
....more like a mid atlantic variety. I'll have to search and see if
she just moved there later and was raised closer to Mason-Dixon line.
Odd that she sounds so much like people here in Maryland, except for the
more obvious New York'isms. The upper state NY accent must be different
than the city one.
... upstate NY ... indeed not very far upstate vs. the city/metro area are like night and day.
Born Cape Cod, relocated to upstate NY
she has said her dad was a cajun
and mom sicilian, upstate ny, lake george area, adirondacks. she talked often of her personal life before she became a celebrity. she sounds like my sister-in-law who was born in plattesburg, ny. adirondacks.
far from the boroughs and LI.
I know more about her than my next door neighbor
probably more than my new congressman. tv is a strange land.
quite a few french settled in the upstate area, my SIL's dad for one, that might explain RR's accent.
'The Acadians were French
settlers of eastern Canada
who were exiled from their
land in the 1750s. The
Cajuns are their descendants
who settled in Louisiana.
Today, thousands of
cherish their rich legacy of
history and genealogy.'--from google
Being from that area...
Being from the Louisiana neck of the woods, I always thought that Cajun was the corrupted pronounciation of Acadian that evolved as time rolled on.
