the thought for today

by jonah jones / April 24, 2004 8:54 PM PDT

When you are deluded and full of doubt,
Even a thousand books of scripture are not enough.

When you have realized understanding,
Even one word is too much.

Understanding is what we need from the Iraqi insurgents.
They seem to be of the idea that the oil is all we are interested in. If that was the case why are we sacrificing our men and women, whilst trying to bring a stable government to the Iraqi people?
Unfortunately there are people in Iraq and further afield who are bent at destroying anything which doesn't meet their own narrow minded view of what THEY think things should be like.
We must never give up this fight, because the moment we do their will be a long line of requests from the selfish narrow minded people for just about anything that suits their warped and narrow minds.

Re: Yes! they have had thousands of years to run their country

Hi, Steve.

Nice theory, but do we really know what the people in Iraq really want? I fear that if we had a trule democratic election today, the result would lead to a repressive theocracy my like Iraq's, rather than why The President (and you) keep assuring us the Iraqi people want. IOW, I fear that you, the President, and many others are engaging in wishful thinking -- and as a Brit, I'm sure you've heard the aphorism "if wishes were horses, then beggars could fly!"

Perhaps I am wishing too much for the Iraqis Dave

I would still like to see what the Iraqi people vote for, and I really would be most surprised if they wanted to go back to Saddam's type of suppression.
Time will tell if things can be kept under some kind of control.
Well, I wish them every bit of luck in getting a stable and happy form of government.
