The Tale of the Headless Laptop!!! (Recycle a Laptop)

Oct 28, 2008 3:59AM PDT

OK, I had a customer give me a HP ZV6000 which had two broken hinges, and the screen was junk.
So seeing as I am an avid recycler of electronics, I put the old bean to work and created the uber free home entertainment center.

I removed the screen and cleaned out the inside of the old laptops case.(Which was full of hair and food scraps).

I placed the Laptop body on top of my entertainment center hooked the S video into my 42 inch lcd tv and the audio out to my surround sound system.

I can now view the internet in my living room via the wireless card I have in the laptop.

Seeing as Fox is no longer carried by our local cable company, I can catch up on all the shows I am missing by going to www.hulu.com. Its great all my fox shows with very few commercials.

Installing a new OS on a laptop using the video output to an external monitor in stead of the in-built screen might be difficult or impossible if the setup program of the OS you want to install doesn't support using an external monitor. So I'm afraid that is something to try, because usually it isn't mentioned in the spec, and might be different across different hardware also.

Re-use

This is basically the same advice I offered a user that had a broken LCD. Use a monitor or newer TV to connect and forget about it. I wondered what they did, as they weren't to estuticate about it. ------Willy Happy
