General discussion

The stated time of posting.

To members from all over the world:

What do you make of the "time-stamp" stated at the time of your post - your local time or US EST time ? Which would you like ?

i guess you get used to seeing EST, and then work out "what time was it here"...

i believe that with a little effort, it should be possible for each individual to see his "local time"....
(it sure would help the "first time posters")

it is what CNet established since their headquarters is in/near San Francisco, Calif, so the time is Pacific Coast USA time. This was brought up before and would be nice so that I could rest my brain in not computing that the time posted is 2 hours less than my current time in the zone I live in. Wink

one standard time I guess, otherwise dates and times from members all over the world might get confusing.

Personally I think we should all be on GMT, Happy

Personally I have never understood GMT time...

Something about my mind simply does not click. I am sure it is quite simple but NOT to me. Confused

It's simply the time at the meridian that

passes through Greenwich England. There is a major obsevatory there. It was used during WWII to establish military actions on a common world wide time.

They could have chosen your home town, but didn't. LOL

This was discussed (asked) many times. As far as I can remember, the previous 5 Forums software versions used to be: EST, EST, GMT, GMT, PST.

Anyway, the idea is that we used to have GMT. Of course it confused the North ? South American guys (although SAm were rare that time).

A decent implementation should have the Time-Zone preference in the User Profile. The Forum?s software implementation translates it in the user?s time zone preference. If the software doesn?t implement it, Je m'en fou because GMT, PST (in fact xST ) needs some mind calculation process for any guy outside the subjective chosen time-zone base.

Finally, although this shouldn?t be too difficult to implement, needing some code and of course the "Forums will be shut down for a while" well known message Wink (and the corresponding event), it shouldn?t be the first priority.
