The scene search function on 2010 TV models ?

Sep 27, 2010 6:17AM PDT

Dear Samsung users,

I own an European plasma TV 50C6500 and as mentioned in few threads, PC Share manager seems to be able to display chapters with a "Media content" video.

I never managed to get it working on PC Share Manager v4.2
As mentioned where [http://forums.cnet.com/5208-4_102-0.html?threadID=403277] it seems that for some it was working on v4.1 but not on the v4.2

The user manual says : "When you use Media Play mode through a network connection, According to functions of the provided server (...) The scene search function may not be supported." which is quite general and does not explains a lot...

HDTech do you have any informations about this chapters thingy ?
Old firmware (40C650 1013) seems to handle it but newest does not (50C6500 2002.0).

Hope you'll be able to help us.
Best regards,
Fr3d

fboulange,

HDTech do you have any informations about this chapters thingy ?

I do not, unfortunately. I've seen the posts in other forums, but without notes from engineers, the update changelog you have is what I have. And on the new site redesign, I haven't seen those changelogs posted yet either.

If you'd like me to make 4.1 (US version) available to try out, I'd be happy to do that. But I don't have anything further.

Willl have a go on v4.1

Ok I'd love to give it a try with v4.1 just to make sure if my TV is able to display chapters. So HDTech if you've got a link somewhere I will love to give it a try.
Thanks.

By the way using a patch miniDLNA is able to get the following PC Share Manager feature working :

This patch will enable miniDLNA using to support most features of a Samsung LE40C650 LCD TV:

* thumbnails (patch from minidlna forum which produces jpeg thumbnails e.g. movie.avi.jpg)
* subtitle submenu, if external subtitles are found
* chapter selection (every 10% of the movie)
* Bookmarks (jump to last watched position)

Post concerning this patch : https://sourceforge.net/projects/minidlna/forums/forum/879957/topic/3708596

This might interrest lots of Samsung users Happy

fboulange,

This is released for the U.S. models. I can't recommend using it outside of that region in any official capacity, just so it's said. But we also try to support our customers the best we can.

Also, since it seems like a little bit of tweaking is in play, just be advised that installing the wrong firmware (such as one from a different region) pretty much always bricks your TV, even "if the models seem the similar or the same". I see case after case end up here, and it's usually because someone was trying to get some little feature or benefit, "someone on the Internet said it worked", and now has to pay up to the repair guy. It's not worth it, so be careful. Happy

Thanks for the feedback.

Best,

No chapters on v4.2, while it was working on v4.1

Dear Samsung fans

I just realized that I did not post any reply to my investigations.
The Samsung PC Share Manager v4.2 is not displaying any more the chapters while it is working on v4.1 (test on European Samsung Plasma PS50C6500)
So I'll advice you to stick to this v4.1 version.

fboulange,

I appreciate the feedback, and will send your results to the appropriate department. I don't know what changed between the versions, but if I get further information, I'll be happy to post it here.
