Is a back light and a inverter the same thing on a lap top there's not a lot of mention direction wise of which part is which i'm confused what a back-light is are these two mean the same thing

The back light is the light and in OLDER laptops with CCFL TUBES you had a part/board/circuit called an inverter to supply the needed voltage to the tubes.

But let's step even further back. Why would we need to know this plus why would we want an old design?

Sorry to read that. Let's just say that test questions are best put to web searches and your instructor. That is, if you want to wear out a forum then paste homework questions. Pretty soon folk catch on what you are doing.
