that many among those that were involved in the torturing of prisoners were Jewish, Hindu, Bhuddists or Muslims. But I may be wrong!

The difference is that the abusers at Abu Ghraib (AFAIK) did not commit these atrocities in God's name or in the name of Christianity, Judaism or any other faith.

What it does demonstrate is that even the most civilized of people can be capable of savagery under the right conditions.
