Question

The purpose of creating free Chrome extension

Oct 7, 2015 6:16AM PDT

Why would people have the intention to create them for free? I understand it when there are non-free software whose developers would create an subsidiary chrome extension to boost the population of their software, but other than those case, I can't begin to understand why.

Answer
You may want to extend that to anything created for free.

Linux for example. Why did folk do that?

Or why do some folk volunteer for say Habitat For Humanity?

Maybe there are folk that give of their time for the betterment of all.

there are lots of reasons from something for their portfolio to the longshot of getting rich when when a popular extension is bought out. Some do it as a hobby or just believe that all software should be free. some create it for their own use and decide to share with others. In additions there are some extensions that have hidden ways of receiving payments through ads in the extension or keyword links in webpages.

The reality is, there is no one reason why there are free chrome extensions.
