The perfect Camcorder for an African Safari?

Nov 28, 2005 5:20AM PST

Pretty specific question.

My girlfriend's father and brother are going on an African safari, and they need help researching a good cam to record their experiences with. So I am helping them out by asking you guys.

Any help would be fantastic.

Judging from the descriptions of what the father wants, I would say list of priorities in order of quality would be...
1) sound (must be able to pick up low sound and playback clearly)
2) picture (sharpness for seeing the detail of the hunting landscape and animals from a distance)
3) zoom (10x opitical or better)

Thanks for any help.

Sound, budge

If sound is really that important to them, they'll almost definitely need an external shotgun mic (like the Rode Videomic, which everyone seems to love and I will be buying very shortly).

As for recommending a camera, what is their budget?

I would assume he doesn't want to spend more than 600-700 on it. So I guess 650 or below.

If this is in the budget. Great sound and beautiful lens with 20x optical zoom. Some not too bad deals on this cam right now too.
