The Official Page NOT found tracking thread

Jun 19, 2006 7:58AM PDT

Hey folks,

To give the engineers something to go on to find out what is causing these "Page Not Founds" in the forums, I need a huge favor from you all. If and when you do encounter a page not found, when you're able to post in the forums, please post the incident here. I need the exact time and date in your post for these incidents. This way our engineers can look into the server logs to find out what may have caused these issues during that time.

So please do not create new threads about "Page not founds". Post them directly under this thread here.

Thanks a bunch!!

-Lee

Engineers asked if you guys can provide the URL or forum that you are trying to access when you do encounter a page not found.

This will be very helpful!

Thank you all for doing this! It is appreciated!

For me it's rarely just a specific URL...
Jun 27, 2006 7:12AM PDT

There is the rare occasion where it's limited to just a specific page not loading, but for the most part it's a total blackout...every forum and every post I try to load goes 404 for a few seconds to a few minutes. (I load multiple pages in tabs and refresh them all until the load.) The only forum page I can load during that time is the Forum mainpage, which loads quickly but at the bottom it always comes up "searching for submissions" under the most recent submissions. Also, whenever I get the 404 I am not recognized by Cnet...normally it displays my username in the top right-hand corner while logged in, but when I hit the 404 it asks me to log in. Hopefully those two notes may help in narrowing down the source of the problem.

Forum main page slow load times may be due to
Jun 28, 2006 3:42AM PDT

the "MOST CURRENT POSTS" and "HOT DISCUSSIONS" component trying to load the data to display and if it takes too long to retrieve the browser times out.

Maybe unrelated to the actual forum pages that display 404s. But worth tracking.

Thanks!

That's a different bug...
Jun 29, 2006 12:00PM PDT

I've been lucky enough to not encounter the bug where the post is displayed 2 pages down, forcing you to scroll to find the replies. However, that's a separate bug from receiving the Cnet 404...the 'We're sorry, but the page could not be found' error message for valid URLs. That one's still plaguing me, though now mostly on the forum mainpage, not the individual forums.

Serious question...
Jun 29, 2006 12:27PM PDT

When you look at this thread, do you see Lee's post "This is great!! One additional favor folks...." with a red circle? Wondering if the post marking (another issue) is user-specific or everyone has the same ones at the same time.

It's 8:52 EDT, Sunday July 2 and it works?
Jul 2, 2006 10:59AM PDT

Suddenly SeaMonkey had me not logged into the forums after a scan with EWIDO 4.0. I tossed all it found.

It appears Cnet was still remembering me with my old email login and either CNet did something or I did by running Ewido 4.0.

After logging back in and then using Tools, Password Manager in SeaMonkey to delete the old email passord item, the mark all read seems to be working.

Sorry, I can't explain why this is so. Very strange.
