The New Mac Mini

Feb 28, 2006 2:28AM PST

Just as I was deciding on whether or not to purchase my first Mac. And people were encouraging me to get an iMac over the Mini, now Apple goes and releases an upgraded Mini. What say you Apple gurus out there? I want to use it for basic home use and occasional video editing. Do you think the Mini is worth getting now over the iMac?

This certainly complicates the decision

Given my statement before about not even considering the Mac mini over the iMac, this does complicate the choice a little bit. I still wouldn't expect there to be a stellar graphics card in there but at least processor-wise, it's now a contender for graphics work. You can also put a Superdrive in there, meaning you can burn DVDs. However, you still need to buy a monitor, keyboard and mouse. I'd still go with the iMac, personally, but it certainly becomes a tougher decision.

I couldn't find any info on Apple's website, nor from the email from my Mac rep.

No worries ..

I want one pretty bad too. I was planning on saving my tax refund for this year to pick up a PS3 (whenever it comes out), but now I'm thinking maybe that Mini looks pretty tempting ... Happy

Only problem, I am only getting $5 back this year, lol. Maybe I could trade a paper clip, for something, then that for something...then FINALLY, get me a mac!!

Man, why can't I come up with one of these big ideas, like the red paper clip, or the million-dollar homepage?

I'm bummed.

Don't feel bad

I can't ever come up with ideas either. I think it involves using a super computer/artifical intelligence.

LOL, so sad, sitting here waiting on BOL to be recorded and published!!! (man do I need a life!)

iMac

For video editing, the iMac is probably better, since you're dealing with such big files and stuff u probably want the faster processor or else u might get some problems with longer movies and stuff. I think the mini was meant to be more of an anchor for an Apple Media Center. You plug into your TV and eventually download shows onto it and put Front Row movies on ur TV, play ur iTunes songs on ur surround sound speakers etc. The iMac is the mac that is more for desktop use and an all around computer. Those are just my thoughts.

This is good for uni
Mar 1, 2006 3:43PM PST

I think the Mac Mini will be good for me during uni. I just need a Mac to run 1 maths program, nothing much, and I think the Mac Mini would do it. As a bonus, I could hook it up to my TV in my room to watch DVD's and that. I don't really need something fancy like the iMac, the mini would do.
