The misunderstood world of video gaming

Sep 2, 2010 11:48AM PDT

Hi everybody my name is Michael and I'm currently 20 years old and came here to talk about a peculiar misunderstood concept ''video games''During the long years video gaming has struggled against fame, politics, religion, racism, homophobia ect. and by the end of the 1980's household gaming was hatching from its egg. Slowly as the graphics and games progressed so did companies, and as companies progressed more it lured people into the world. As the games like Mario/Zelda/Final Fantasy/Megaman rose into fame giving people (and me) much entertainment and values (yes video games taught me and most of my friends a lot of thing). As I spent most of my time in my house playing video games for hours and not doing sports or partying like most of my friends I did not regret it, I felt as I explored different problems in different worlds (MUCH LIKE BOOKS). And as time passed those friends of mine either ended up as parents or started using drugs (this is only my story of course). And as my friends started to struggle in their studies and had to be hours memorizing the material, I spent only minutes into learning it (on account of my memorization I learned from playing games like Resident Evil (the old ones), final fantasy (numbers), Silent Hill (reasoning), Mario (color recognition), Tetris (memory order)) Now from the small list I gave you of games I played what do you notice have in common? Nothing cause you dont do your research(most of you, yes thats applies to parents). The games I mentioned are Japanese not to take it against other region that make games. But Japanese are people that like to think, therefore there games are made for your brain rather than fingers, games like Zelda, Mario, Silent Hill, Metroid, ect. all make you use logic, memorization, numbers, division ect. in some or most of the game. Now in recent years, Western style of games have rising rather than Japanese, games like Grand Theft Auto, Call Of duty and Halo are the games that kid nowadays are playing for long periods of time. This isn't necessarily bad for your kids but all these games only offer is single-minded action with no use of your mind whatsoever (REPEAT NOT THAT THERE BAD IN ANY WAY), But CoD and Halo only offer your kid is to go into a playing field and kill the first guy you see, no use of the brain whatsoever, only reflex. While GTA only offers a murderous but hilarious story along with random killing which your only brain function is either ''drive here to kill this guy/pick up girl/pick up drugs/repeat'' offering limited use to your child's brain, AND I REPEAT THESE GAMES ARE NOT BAD OR SUCK so hold your negative comments back haters. And yet we buy these games for our children when we go to Gamestop (YES you parents cause the kid cant purchase these games). Heres a couple of Q&A I made if any of you are wondering, if you have any more please email me at omegajpn@hotmail.com

1)Are games bad for children?
No in fact games are a great way for the children to increase memory and creative skills along with reasoning.

2) But I heard on the news games are bad for children.
The News say ''video games'' are bad in general while that completely false read my article for details.

3) But aren't they aggressive and sexual?
Not all of them games like Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Final Fantasy, Katamari Damacy, Little Big Planet, Viva Pinata, all feature little or no violence/sexual intuendo in the game and actually challenges your little ones minds into being creative and smart.

4)How do I know what game is right for my kid?
Check the front or back of the box for the ESRB rating, E rated games are good for everyone but be sure to buy a good game since this rating has a lot of bad titles. T rated games are good for 12 and up im 20 and there still great. And M rated games are recommend to be for 17+ but I personally think that some should be considered 15+ or under adult supervision, so dont worry if your teenager pics up Devil May Cry 4, its not a demonic favoring games in fact its the opposite, you slay demons and return peace to the world.

5)What are the games I should keep my kids from playing?
None whatsoever theres no wrong in games. As long as you supervise the child playing and explain to him the differences from right or wrong all game is perfectly playable (of course your not going to give a 6 year old Silent hill or Grand theft Auto)

6)Is my child is depressed (or have another problem)cause of video games?
FALSE!!!Video Games dont induce depression, most depressed teens that play video games for long periods where already depressed to begin with cause some sort of trauma or bad experience that he had.

7)But the church said....
The church says a lot of things I go to it, I know but most information they have about video games is as much as most parents have...little.

Cool What makes you so sure about what your saying?
Cause I know the culture and its people and Ive never met such an individual like they described. Me and my gaming buddies spent most of our time on them, and we have good grades, great social abilities, and still love to go out.

9) Then way did the church/friend/news say........
Think for one second and when was the last time you heard some type of positive news, we all know that news rather say Single kid shoot out 13 dead cause of a video game rather than Kid gets lazy eye cured by playing Mario Kart (actual news).

10) Why are you doing all this Mike?
Cause Im tired of hearing people propagate lies about video games, cause 90% of the people Ive know in my life are gamers and none of them are like they describe.

Hope you've gotten some sense into you, also note that I dont mean that Western games are mindless and stupid they just have less sense of reasoning than most Japanese titles.
