Question

the junk folder in one of my WLH accounts is all messed up

Nov 21, 2011 4:54AM PST

I am using Windows XP Media Ctr 2006 and IE 8.0. I have 4 hotmail accounts and only one of them is messed up in the junk mail folder. The columns are all over the place and I can't read anything. Can someone help me? Thanks

Answer
Can't you reorganise them?

I don't know about WLM but one of the fascinating things about Windows generally is the ability to customize things.

For example in Windows Explorer I can customize the right hand pane to move columns' positions, and select which columns to show/hide. To move the columns I simply 'drag' the column headers to where I want them.

Does WLM allow you to do that?

Thanks for the reply. I know what you mean and I can move the columns, but this is not the problem. For instance, under from, some of the address are on the left and some are on the right of the column, then under to, the same thing. The only lined up column is the date column. So consequently, some of the from names I can read and some are so far over in the column that only part of the name is there to read. Same thing with the to column. I hope I am making myself clear. I tried to get in touch with Microsoft about this problem but it is a joke to get anyone to help me. All the other emails are fine, the columns are straight and so are all the names etc. Just the junk folder in one of the hotmail accounts is like this. I just don't understand how this can happen. I hope you have another suggestion for me. Thanks a lot

I think I need to see a screen print.
Nov 23, 2011 10:08PM PST

I can't visualize this. It seems a strange one.

But I just wonder... We know that some languages read from right to left, for example, Hebrew, Sanskrit (so I believe), Arabic. Do you receive emails from senders in such languages?

If not that, then I think I need to see this so can you supply a screen print of WLM with this Junk folder window please? If you decide to do this, then of course you will need to be cautious. I don't want to see an image which shows any personal information, email addresses, senders names, your own name or email address, or personal email subject titles, so you will need to blank those out of the image, and yet leave enough so that the image makes sense to me.

These forums don't allow for the posting of images so we have to use a workaround, and if you have never done it before, I will list what we have to do.

1] With the Junk folder window open and maximised, press the "Print Screen" key on the keyboard. If you are using a laptop, you may need to press the Fn key as well. This places an image copy of the window into cache.

2] Open your favored image Editor. Microsoft's Paint works well for this. PASTE the copy from the screen print, then make changes as necessary to blank out details not required in a public forum.

3] Save the image as a JPEG.

4] Go to your favorite Image Hosting web site, (eg ImageShack, Photobucket, Flickr, etc), and upload that image.

5] Post into a reply here the link to that image.

Hi Mark

I tried to do what you suggested, but it didn't work. I sure wish I could explain to you what is happening. The envelopes are all lined up, but not the sender's names they are partly on the left of the column with ....., then the next line will be on the right of that column. the same thing with the sender's description of what the email is about, sometimes on the left of the column with some of it missing and ......... and sometimes on the right, but the date and the time are all lined up. I can't read who the sender is, nor the description. Do you know Incredimail? I have used it and I like it, so maybe I should go back to it. I just find this all too upsetting to be bothered with it. What do you think? Is there an email program that you like that I could use with my ISP 3 accounts and the hotmail accounts all in one program? I do trust your judgement. Awaiting your reply.

Where didn't it work?

Were you able to get that screen print and save it as a JPEG image?

If so, you can send it to me if you wish. Just click on my name to get to my profile and look for the "E-mail Mark" link.

Send me a short message, no attachments or anything, just a short message, and when I get it I will see your own email address, the one you used for this CNET account.

I will then email you back so that you have my own full email address. Then you can send this screen print image as an attachment.

I just ended up deleting all of Windows Live Hotmail. I am now using Incredimail which I really like. What is your thought on this move?

Ahh!

You asked for my thoughts.

Frustrated? Happy

I would have liked to have seen the screen print showing your problems as I couldn't visualize the situation, and I know how difficult it so often is to explain to others in words what we are seeing with our eyes. I'm still unsure what didn't work, but no matter, it's gone now.

As to Incredimail, well... Many users love all its features. Others have reported various problems with Incredimail in these forums. I've never used it so I honestly can't say. But the big test is yourself. If you are happy with it then that really is what matters.

Thank you for reporting back, and I'm glad you have finally solved your problem. If you're celebrating the holidays have a good one.
