Dec 5, 2005 2:06AM PST

It would be good to find out the opions of others about the following

- How do you feel the Internet has changed the music industry
(Positive or
Negative)?
- Since the problems with Napster and other companies alike has the
system
for downloading music improved?
- Apart from downloading how else has the Internet influenced music?

Thanks for your time

Music Industry

The music industry as a whole, has been unable to react properly to any change in its environment.

Their response is to bring out the big guns and shoot itself in the foot.

It started with payola and now down to the latest shot to the foot with Sony putting virus software on our computers.

I see no solution for the music industry.
They are stuck in the mud.

Never acting - only reacting.

It has blown the doors off the buildings that locked down what content you might have access to. While it's still widely accepted that you can't record in a non-RIAA studio, the open market and free creation will result in independents being able to reach their market.

- How do you feel the Internet has changed the music industry (Positive or Negative)?

For the better AFAIK. The RIAA will say they're losing millions to billions in CD sales (and they're probably right for all I care), but it has helped others distribute and promote their songs in legal ways.

I hear the internet also helps small bands avoid VERY COSTLY fees associated with music studios.

The music industry was reluctant to offer downloads of music for listeners. Listeners ended up downloading it illegally since that's the method some ppl preferred, so the industry was forced to offer downloadable music for purchase eventually.

- Since the problems with Napster and other companies alike has the system for downloading music improved?

IMO, nope. Too many restrictions. I well aware they need to keep downloads from being illegally copied, but that's just not for me. And otherwise, they'r the services of renting the music for a monthly/yearly fee. Not for me either. That's why among other reasons i don't use any of these online music services.

- Apart from downloading how else has the Internet influenced music?

easier to find info online relating to music
