Read an article from California recommending people set the air conditioners to come on at 82 degrees.

I consider that too hot and 110 waaay too hot.

It's a record!

No place in Canada has ever been as hot and humid as Carman was yesterday, at least since Environment Canada started keeping records more than 125 years ago.

The humidex reading topped out at a whopping 53 C yesterday, breaking the all-time Canadian humidex record of 52.1 C set in Windsor, Ont., in 1953.

The humidex is a Canadian invention that measures how the combination of heat and humidity feel to your body.

A humidex reading taken about 3:30 p.m. yesterday at Richardson International Airport registered 48 C, breaking Winnipeg's all-time record of 46.1 C set in 1996

Sounds too complicated to me

Does this mean that walking in that air is like slogging through molasses?

That I can understand. In winter we use "wind chill factor". That's what it's supposed to fell like if you step outside naked. Who's that stupid? Oops, wrong question to ask here. Wink

i think you got it right Steve

wind chill factor in the winter, humidex in the summer

most people can enjoy a sunny 80-85 @15-20% humidity, but a sunny 80 with 65-80% can drive you round the bend if you're not used to it

And there is also

"dry" heat like in the desert

"dry" Cold, Like in the far north where everything is frozen and no moisture in the air.

"moist/wet" Cold like around water source that doesn't freeze and below 0F temp

Wet cold feels colder and high humidity heat feels hotter.

To me anyways.

Humidty disrupts your body's ability to regulate your

body temp. Humidity during hot times prevents sweat from evaporating off your skin, which is one of the main mechanisms you use to cool yourself. Less evaporation = less heat loss = hotter body temp. This is also one of the main reasons that hot tubs can be dangerous if you stay in too long.

As for the cold, water has a much higher capacity to absorb heat than air. So, any moisture on your skin in the cold acts like a big sponge for heat, lowering your body temp. This is why you can be comfortable sitting in your house at 65 degrees Fahrenheit, but will die of hypothermia if you stay in 65 degree water too long.

Reminds me of a joke

Three guys were talking about their weather. The one from Alaska was talking about how cold it got up there but it was a dry cold so wasn't so bad. The guy from the California desert talked about how hot it was but it was a dry heat so it wasn't so bad. They one from New Orleans talked about how much rain they got, but it was a dry rain so it wasn't so bad. Wink

We generally get the photos from the Chicago group...Lake Mich. I suppose. I'll put this on "Must Do Before I Die" list.

It will be just after the slit my throat with a rusty tin can lid but before buy the complete DVD series of "The Simple Life". Happy

I refused to join since it seems a prerequisite (from the news pics at least) that you wear a speedo for all the club outings. Wink

Put a tether on the driver and attach to children so no possible way to leave car?

Get rid of the "I forgot" defense?

Leaving a baby in a car?

"Whats the big deal" "I Forgot"

pathetic, the poor bady. Oh he left the window open, wow, how mighty generous of him?

But its true the climax is going up to, but since when was that an excuse to leave your baby in a car??
