Short answer: You don't

If it were as simple as downloading a few programs, there wouldn't BE a spam problem. People who admin mail servers would simply install such packages and cut it all off at the source.

That being said, I've always preferred Mozilla Thunderbird's adaptive junk mail filter. If you give it about a week, it should be pretty effective AND accurate. It also learns on its own, so it doesn't need constant updating like most other solutions. You also have the option of not deleting the messages, so in case it incorrectly flags something, it's not gone forever. To me, it's the best balance of effectiveness and convenience.

Anyway, assuming you don't want to be part of the problem, you should immediately discontinue all use of IE and OE in favor of something else. Be it Opera or Firefox for IE, Thunderbird or countless others for OE, it doesn't matter. Those two are prime targets, and you're making yourself one too by using them.

Just a thought.

I had the experience of geeting on to mailing lists and getting a heap of spam. I used a freeware progy called avirmail which is filter based was alright but time consuming.

I changed ISP and now I like to use throw away email addresses hotmail, lycos whatever for non important stuff so if wrong people get my address I just stop using it.

For more personal stuff I have my ISP addresses. still that having been said you never know were your address will end up once you have disclosed it especialy if it gets harvested.

I agree with the post about getting rid of M$ explorer and outlook go mozilla!

You could try a massive sea and air invasion as a counterattack.

Try posting this in the virus forum. I read something about a virus spreading over last weekend that is spreading spam in German.
