The flash player problem is baaaaaack!

Sep 25, 2008 6:31PM PDT

I've tried everything I can possibly think of, including the suggestions on this forum. I can get it to showup in control panel 'programs' and the download history, but it won't run.The wizard says install is 100%, but it aint! Has anyone come up with a fix for this problem? It was installed on the computer when I got it, but I can't put it back on now. (I had to wipe the HD)I really need it unless there is an alternative available. System; Gateway GT5438, 320g HD, 3g ram
Thanks

Tried This?

First, uninstall Flash by using the Flash Uninstaller at the link below..

http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_14157

After that's done, then download the manual Flash player installer from the link below.. Run it to install Flash for Internet Explorer.

http://www.softwarepatch.com/internet/flash.html

Once that's done, if you're also using Firefox, visit the site below while in Firefox, then download and run the Flash plugin installer

http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash&%3BLang=French&%3BP5_Language=French

Hope this helps.

Flash player

Well, at least it shows up in control panel as being 3.04 mb in size. The firefox plugin doesn't show any size in control panel but that could be normal, but it does show that the plugin is installed.
I think I tried this before, but I was extra careful this time.
FWIW, for anyone who needs a temporary access to a flash program you can try; "Flash Decompiler" or "SWISH Max2". I have them both temporarily, and they seem to work while I am trying to work out the problems with adobe.
Thanks much Grif!
George
PS; I will post the results later tonite when I have a chance to test the Flash.

Well, all indications are that

Grif's procedure did the trick. I thought that I had followed that procedure earlier with unfavorable results. Apparently I missed a step or something. Anyway the system seems to be working properly now in spite of gateway, and microsoft shortcomings. I still don't trust it yet tho.
Again, thanks Grif.
