The file 'Syn TP.sys' on Synaptics Driver Installation Disk

I have Windows XP, SP 2, Compaq Presario M 2000, laptop. Recently whenever I start the computer up, I get the following message on the desktop:
The file 'Syn TP.sys' on Synaptics Driver Installation Disk is needed. Type the path where the file is located, and then click OK. Copy files from: C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\Media
When I click OK, nothing happens. When I close the message I get:
Warning If you cancel now Windows might not work correctly. Are you sure you want to cancel?
Any suggestions?

SynTP.sys refers to touchpad drivers

and it sounds as if they either didn't install properly or got corrupt. Try going to Compag's site, enter your Model and possibly the Serial Number of your laptop, and download and install the latest drivers they have available for your Presario. (Had the same problem with my son's laptop just a few days ago while I was in San Diego visiting him....he has a Gateway laptop...and that solved the error problem.

Actually I did go to the Compaq website and did an online chat with a rep. The rep gave me the driver to download, which I did, but I still had the message. I finally did a system restore, went back about a week, and the problem went away. I also changed the automatic updates to notify me which updates are available and I pick them.
