The Canon EOS 40D vs. The Pentax K10D Any Thoughts?

Jul 10, 2011 4:37AM PDT

I was just curious if anyone has had experience with both the Canon EOS 40D and the Pentax K10D and could explain which one they think is the better camera out of the two.

DSLR cameras

I doubt that you will find someone who owns/has owned both cameras.

People who buy DSLR cameras tend to stay with whatever brand they start with.

When they invest in several lenses they are not likely to buy a different DSLR camera and then have to buy a whole new set of lenses.

Find the camera that has the features you want and you can afford.
Go to a camera store and get your hands on that camera.
If it feels good in your hands - that is the one for you.

Even Match?

I do not have experience with either camera, but image quality seems evenly matched, judging by test photos on imaging-resource.com. The Canon has a few things I like more. Both ISO and shutter speed go one stop more than the K10D; 3200 and 1/8000 vs. 1600 and 1/4000. The Canon is also faster, 6+ frames per second vs. 3+ fps...important if you're into sports shooting. The Pentax has some things I like more too, such as the fully weather sealed body, and some really intelligent control design. Personally, I would go with the Canon because of the lens line-up and the addition of live view.
